28 December 2010

WING, the country’s leading mobile banking service provider and Angkor Mikroheranhvatho Kampuchea’s (AMK), a leading micro-finance institution, have today launched a unique partnership to provide greater financial services throughout Cambodia.

The new partnership will operate as a pilot program, involving 22 AMK branches operating as WING Cash Express outlets, adding to the 620 WING outlets already in operation. Customers will initially be able to conduct regular WING transactions at AMK branches, including signing up for new accounts and cash-in and cash-out services.

WING Managing Director, David Kleiman said: “WING and AMK are both dedicated to building financial inclusion among low-income earners and aiding the development of rural markets by bringing innovative and cost appropriate financial services to Cambodia.”

Fully regulated by the NBC, WING is now operating in dual currencies and was the first to introduce mobile banking services to Cambodia in early 2009. AMK is a leading micro-finance institution (MFI) in Cambodia with over 250,000 customers and a loan portfolio of over US$30 million.

AMK CEO, Pete Power said: “Our partnership with WING signifies greater benefits for our customers and for Cambodia as a whole.  Aligning with a mobile banking service provider who shares our social mission is a critical component to our partnership with WING.  ”

WING and AMK have nationwide networks, both operating in all of Cambodia’s 24 provinces.  Together the two organisations serve nearly 500,000 customers.
