Get on the Road with Cambodia’s First Cashless Travel Card
What’s NewPhnom Penh – June 19, 2018: The first cashless travel card in Cambodia launches today as Wing and Phnom Penh City Bus Authority join forces to make traveling on public transport smarter and easier.
In a first of its kind venture for the country, the city bus card will allow customers to use local bus services with just the swipe of a card. With a city bus card and Wing’s technology, convenience is key. Users can simply hop on and off the bus with no need for cash, enjoying greater flexibility and stress free travel as you ride-in any of over 155 city buses.
On the occasion, Wing Chief Executive Officer, Jojo Malolos said this link-up between Wing and City Bus will change the face of public transport in Phnom Penh, offering quick and easy travel solutions for everyone and driving forward a smooth journey towards a cashless society.
“We are very excited to be part of something new for Cambodia. City Bus Card will revolutionise the way people use public transport in the city. We are always looking at new products and services to meet the needs of the people and intend to be at the forefront of the advancement of fintech,” said Mr. Malolos.
Mr. Ean Sokhim, Director of Phnom Penh City Bus Authority said “With this electronic payment machine, I hope and firmly believe that the city bus authority will have greater capacity to manage revenue and customer data, and we look forward to a great sucess from this cooperation in the future.”
Phnom Penh city bus cards, all powered by Wing, are available in two options. Blue card is for student, the elderly, monk, factory worker, people with disability, and kids below 1 metre height, offering 180 free rides per top up. Blue card is 1$ in price and users can top up for more free rides at any of city bus station. Green card is meant for general customers. Green card is 2.5$ in price including 1.5$ cash for travel and users can top up more cash at any of Wing agents.
In addition, existing Wing card users can also use their card as City Bus Card by just having it activated on the NFC feature at the booth located inside city bus stations or at Wing head office, and they are ready to enjoy their city travel any time without having to be concerned about the bus fare change. For Wing cardless account users, you can either create a physical Wing card or purchase green City Bus card.
Launched in 2014, Phnom Penh city bus is a municipal public transport system that serves Phnom Penh residence. On average, about 20,000 to 21,000 people take the daily commute through the 8 lines of city bus.
